As Independent Campaign Platform Takes Advocacy To Grassroots
With less than one month to the presidential election, an independent
campaign platform which cuts across party, civil society groups,
ethnic and religious leanings has come up, taking the advocacy to
return President Buhari to the grassroots.
In a press conference addressed at the Press Centre, Radio House,
Abuja by Alh. Abdulkarim Dayyabu, with Alh. AbdulAzeez Yari Abubakar,
as the group chairman who is also the governor, Zamfara State, and
chairman, Nigeria Governors Forum,NGF, and Secretary, Barr. Kayode
Ajulo, the group, Forward With Buhari, says President Muhammadu Buhari
remains the best man for the job of moving Nigeria forward.
They say he has demonstrated what he understands as what must be done
to fix Nigeria for the ordinary citizens to enjoy, instead of what
held in the past where the majority Nigerians live in abject poverty,
while a very few enjoyed the commonwealth.
“Today, we have come together, to tell the world, of our
determination, to sustain the on-going socio political and economic
revolution that is presently moving our country Nigeria, to forward
with Buhari to the Next Level,” the statement read.
The group added: “Our choices will shape, our economic security and
our future prosperity. Nigeria, more than ever before, needs a stable
and people-focused government to move the agenda for our country
forward. Four years ago, President Buhari promised Nigerians real
change in what we do and how we do it. He has worked hard to fulfil
these promises and while the road may have been difficult, over the
last three and half years, he has laid a solid foundation for a
strong, stable and prosperous country for the majority of our people.”
They say their coming together is to galvanize the support of all
well-meaning Nigerians, to continue to build a country that represents
shared aspiration, and belongs to all, irrespective of economic or
social status.
“As we approach the 2019 Presidential election, Nigerians are
confronted with an opportunity to decide on whether to move backward,
or endure and sustain the momentum that already started making impact
on our journey,” the statement read.
The group says their coming together to embark on this campaign
essentially to focus on “what we desire for this country. That the
future of this great country will be greatly determined by the
decisions that we make as a people, come February 16, 2019.”
According to the group, “the February 16 election is about which
candidate will sustain the war against corruption. It is about a
government that will invest in our education, a government that will
secure our country from internal and external aggressions, a
government that will empower our rural dwellers, a government that
shares the aspiration of our people irrespective of their religions or
tribes, a government with human face and that will provide a more
united nation.”
Recall that since October, 2018, independent groups have emerged
across the nation, like the campaign group in Lagos where Governor
Akinwunmi Ambode, and the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship
candidate in the state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, collapsed their campaign
teams and floated a new group that will campaign for the re-election
of President Buhari, as well as the gubernatorial campaign in the
state.
It is believed that similar groups will emerge as the days go by
