…Afraid Buhari will turn against them if re-elected

There are indications that at least seven governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, are in secret talks with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on the possibility of working for the election of PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Daybreak exclusively gathered that the affected APC governors, especially the outgoing ones, are not having a robust relationship with the national leadership of the APC and are not comfortable with the possibility of President Buhari being reelected on February 16.
According to our sources, the governors are nursing the fears that President Buhari is only accommodating them just to get their support for his reelection bid and may use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to settle scores with them once he is reelected.
A governor from the North West, who is not certain of his own reelection, is said to be the arrowhead of the plot to work against the reelection of President Buhari.
Some of the governors are also said to be scared that Buhari may use them as sacrificial lambs for his anti-graft war to change the narrative that the anti-corruption war is targeted at only the opposition party members.
Though these APC governors still pretend to be in support of Buhari’s reelection bid in public, they are also said to have gone far in their negotiations with the PDP to ensure Buhari does not stay in Aso Rock presidential villa beyond May 29.
Apart from political disagreement with the national leadership of the APC, some of the governors are angry with President Buhari for telling Nigerians not to vote for any governor that owe workers salary.
“President Buhari is aware of the precarious financial status of almost all the APC states. How can he (Buhari) tell people not to vote for any of our governors that is owing salary” the source said.
“He cannot be de-campaigning the governors and expect them to help him win his own election. The governors are the ones that control the votes at the state level and they will do the needful to ensure the people don’t vote for him (Buhari).”
Daybreak further gathered that the aggrieved APC governors are plotting to unsettle Buhari by formally declaring support for the PDP candidate few days to the election.
He added that the tsunami will happen close to the election to ensure the APC does not have adequate time to recover before the election.
