The Nasarawa State House of Assembly committee on Education, Science and Technology has summoned a contractor handling the construction of a block of three classrooms at LGEA Primary School, Alawagana Lafia to appear before the Education committee on Friday, 5th March, 2021 by 10am.
This, the committee said was to enable him explain why he failed to commence work at the project site.
Hon Daniel Ogazi, the Chairman of the Committee gave the summon when he led other members of the committee on an assessment visit to ongoing construction and renovation of primary schools in Lafia Local Government Area of the State .
He also directed the contractors handling the construction of school projects at LGEA Primary School Fadama Bauna South and LGEA Primary Schol, Kampany to appear before the committee on Friday, March 5th, 2021
He threatened that the committee would not hesitate to order for the revocation of the projects if contractors failed to report to site and do the needful.
He said that the committee was out to ensure that deficiencies in projects execution are corrected in order to avoid wastage of government money.
” We are not out to witch hunt anybody but to ensure that school projects awarded to contractors are done according to specifications.
” We will not allow any contractor to short-changed the state government efforts in improving on the standard of education in the state.
” We want to commend those contractors that have adhere strictly to their projects specification.
” But we are advising those contractors that failed to adhere to their projects specifications to go back to their various sites and do the needful in their interest and for the overall development of the state,” he said.
Ogazi also urged contractors to always use standard materials while constructing and renovating school projects in order to justify state government huge investment in the education sector.
” We will not accept any sub standard job and we will make our findings known and necessary action will be taken against any contractor that fail to deliver his or her job rightly,” he added.
Ogazi advised communities to take ownership of school projects in their domains in their interest and for the overall development of the country.
The committee chairman assured of its continued determination to supervise school projects across the state towards ensuring that good jobs are delivered.
It would be reported that some of the schools visited include LGEA Primary School, Akurba, LGEA Pilot Science Primary School, Bakin Rijiya, LGEA Pilot Science School, Adogi, LGEA Primary School, Gidan Mai Akuya, GJSS Assakio, LGEA Primary School, Alawagana, LGEA Primary School, Ugah, LGEA Primary School, Fadama Bauna South, LGEA Primary School, Kampany , LGEA Primary School, Langi, LGEA Primary School, FefeRuwa and LGEA Primary School, Agabija, all in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
