Benue Police Command Confirms killing of Six persons by Suspected Herdsmen in Benue Community

Benue State Police Command has confirmed the Killing of six persons while three others sustained serious injuries by suspected herdsmen at the modern market Ward, Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State in the early hours of Saturday.

The Police Public Relation’s Officer, PPRO, DSP Sewuese Anene who disclosed this to Journalists, stressed that the Command has deployed a team of Police Officers to the scene of the incident to restore peace and order.

The Police Spokesperson urged the people to remain calm, assuring that the Police were doing everything possible to bring the perpetrators of the illegal act to Justice.

It was gathered that the attackers stormed the area and opened fire on members of the community, killing six persons and injuring three others.

Reacting to the killings, the Councilor representing the ward, Mr Gabriel Ishuur lamented that the attack was the fifth in the community since the beginning of this year with eighteen lives lost.

The Legislator who expressed worry over the attack lamented that the incident occurred at the time farmers have started planting their crops.

The Lawmaker urged security operatives to fish out perpetrators of the illegal act and bring them to justice.

He implored security agents to intensify surveillance to enable farmers go about their farming activities, which he said is their only source of livelihood.
