ACF Raises Alarm: New Terror Group Speaks French, Arabic, Actively Recruiting Members with Financial Incentives and Force

Allegedly Killed 15 in Argungu LGA Recently

The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has raised concerns over a new terror group, “Lakurawa,” reportedly active in the northwestern Nigerian states of Kebbi and Sokoto. The group’s activities were detailed in a statement released by the forum.

According to ACF’s National Publicity Secretary, Prof. Tukur A. Muhammad-Baba, Lakurawa has been terrorizing local communities, evicting security personnel and vigilante groups, and imposing its own strict justice system.

Reports indicate that the group’s members are primarily foreign nationals who speak French and a form of Arabic. They are actively recruiting new members either by offering financial incentives or through force.

“In a recent attack on Argungu Local Government Area, the group allegedly killed 15 people,” the statement revealed.

The ACF expressed grave concern, noting, “The emergence of this group is both dangerous and alarming, representing a further escalation of the insecurity plaguing the Northwest, which is now regarded as Nigeria’s epicenter of terrorism.”

The group’s rise coincides with intensified efforts by the Nigerian military to combat banditry in the region, posing a serious national security threat.

The ACF urged Nigerian security agencies to take swift and decisive action to eliminate the group before it establishes a stronghold, stressing the importance of avoiding the passive response that allowed groups like Boko Haram to grow unchecked.

The statement also called for a comprehensive review of Nigeria’s national security strategies, with stronger collaboration through the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF). It urged the Niger Republic to rejoin these efforts.

In addition to military action, the ACF recommended enhanced intelligence gathering and greater inter-agency cooperation, coordinated under the Office of the National Security Advisor.

The forum also called for greater community vigilance, with local leaders, hunters, and vigilante groups supporting security forces in their efforts.
