Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers State governor, told Nigerians that power will not be easily handed over by politicians. He made this statement during a conference on strengthening democracy in Abuja. Amaechi warned that politicians, including President Bola Tinubu, will do whatever it takes to keep power.
Power Isn’t Freely Given, Amaechi Warns
Amaechi explained that even if Nigerians demand change, politicians won’t willingly give up power. He used Nigeria and Ghana as examples to stress that citizens must be prepared to act decisively. “None of you here can defend the votes,” he said, suggesting that securing power often requires sacrifice.
Call for Vigilance in Nigerian Politics
The former governor further warned Nigerians not to expect a peaceful transfer of power. He remarked, “If you want a pastor as president, go and get one.” Amaechi stated that politicians in Nigeria are willing to resort to violence and manipulation to stay in power. He also reflected on the 2015 election, highlighting how the APC was prepared to defend its mandate.
Amaechi’s Final Message on Political Participation
Amaechi urged Nigerians to adopt a more proactive approach in upcoming elections. He emphasized that power is not easily given, but earned through determination.
