Bayelsa 2023: I’m still in the Senatorial race- Wilson Ayakpo

.. confident of clinching party ticket

The lawmaker representing Ekeremor Constituency II and Senatorial aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC for Bayelsa West Senatorial District , Hon. Wilson Ayakpo Dauyegha has debunked the rumours in some quarters that he has been disqualified from contesting the APC senatorial party primaries.

Ayakpo who cleared the air on his purported disqualification while speaking to newsmen in Yenagoa said the kangaroo screening done by some elders of the APC from Ekeremor LGA is not recognised by law and cannot stand.

He noted that as a serving lawmaker in the state House of Assembly there was no way he could be screened out and thanked the APC screening committee from Abuja for its fairness and openness in doing the right thing by clearing him to participate in the forthcoming senatorial party primaries.

The lawmaker asserted that those behind his concorted disqualification are intimidated by his rising political antecedents which can be attested to by his developmental projects and programmes attracted to the people of his constituency.

He said: ” Those that planned my concorted disqualification are afraid of my rising political profile. It is unthinkable for a serving lawmaker to be disqualified by a so called kangaroo screening by some elders to screen me. Besides that screening is not know by law.

” It will interest you to know that I have been screened by the APC screening committee from Abuja and cleared to contest the primaries. So I am very much in the race for the Senatorial primaries.

The senatorial hopeful described the former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, Seriake Dickson as a ” political robber” who is colluding with some disgruntled politicians from Ekeremor to shortchanged the people, insisting that by the gentleman’s agreement it is the turn of Ekeremor LGA to produce the next Senator.

He expressed confidence of clinching the party ticket owing to the track record and his legislative background, promising to ensure that he employs lobbying to attract developmental projects to the Senatorial district.

The Ekeremor born politician noted that the people of the senatorial district are solidly behind his aspiration, saying that he has what it takes to defeat the incumbent senator and offer purposeful representation if elected into the Red Chamber come 2023 general election.
