Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Thiago Alcantara.
The Reds struck a deal worth in the region of £27million for Thiago and the 29-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Premier League champions.
Liverpool have been chasing Thiago for much of the summer since the Spaniard decided against penning a new deal with Bayern.
Manchester United also showed interest in Thiago, who Bayern were prepared to offload if a side met their asking price.
But Thiago had his heart set on a switch to Anfield where he could work under Jurgen Klopp and will wear the No.6 shirt.
Liverpool on their Twitter handle on Friday, September 18 wrote, ”The moment you’ve all been waiting for…”
Thiago is considered one of the best midfielders in the world and won the Champions League and Bundesliga with Bayern last season. Liverpool were facing financial difficulties this summer but the club decided to follow through on Klopp’s request to bring Thiago to the club.
Thiago is Liverpool’s second signing of the summer after the addition of Kostas Tsimikas.
The left-back will provide competition for Andrew Robertson, while Thiago is expected to be given an immediate run in the side once he is up to speed. After winning their opening Premier League fixture against Leeds, Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
