Breaking News: Customs Initiates Auction of Confiscated Food Items

The Nigeria Customs Service has embarked on the auctioning of seized food items to alleviate hunger among vulnerable populations across Nigeria, announced Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of the Service.

During a session in the House of Representatives as part of the sectoral debate series, Adeniyi disclosed the directive from President Bola Tinubu to sell locally produced food items confiscated at Nigerian land borders directly to needy Nigerians. This measure aims to mitigate the challenges posed by hunger and food scarcity in the country.

Adeniyi stated, “The President’s directive mandates us to sell locally produced food items seized from our borders directly to those in need. We have initiated this process in Lagos as a proactive step to address food insecurity.”

Furthermore, Adeniyi mentioned that imported food items confiscated by the Nigeria Customs Service would also be reintroduced into local markets for resale to Nigerian consumers.

More updates on this development will follow.
