Bride’s Alleged Food Poisoning at Jigawa Wedding Triggers Public Outrage

By Abigail Philip David

An incident of alleged food poisoning at a wedding in Jigawa State’s Jahun Local Government Area has sparked widespread outrage on social media. The bride is accused of poisoning food served to guests, reportedly due to a personal vendetta.

The spokesperson for the Jigawa State Police Command, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations are ongoing. He revealed that the groom is currently in critical condition, while one guest has died. Other attendees who consumed the tainted food have been discharged from the hospital.

“We received a report that the bride allegedly poisoned the food at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill,” Adam said. “Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.”

Social Media Reactions

The incident has ignited debates online, with many condemning the alleged actions of the bride.

– Samuel Alpha, a Facebook user, called for justice, stating: “She should have considered the innocent guests. Even if the marriage was forced, this act is pure wickedness and must not go unpunished.”

– Chukwu Lawrence commented, “The bride’s actions are inexcusable. If she didn’t want to marry the groom, there were other ways to express her dissatisfaction without endangering lives.”

– Cicero Okoro labeled the bride as an “end-time bride,” writing, “Wickedness. She could have walked away if she didn’t want the marriage.”

Some users speculated that the incident might have stemmed from a forced marriage, highlighting the psychological and emotional toll such situations can have.

On X (formerly Twitter), reactions were similarly critical:

– Ezeugo tweeted, “Nawa o… wicked world. That bride get mind.”
– Adewale ‘Damilare questioned, “Who forced her into marriage? Such a thoughtless and cruel act.”

Questions Raised

Others expressed curiosity about how the bride managed to poison the food unnoticed.

– Shuaib Sidiali asked, “How did she gain access to the food on the wedding day? Was she involved in its preparation?”

The incident has raised broader concerns about the implications of forced marriages and the need for greater vigilance in ensuring the safety of attendees at public events.

The police have assured the public of a thorough investigation to bring those responsible to justice.
