A three-story building at Ita Faaji Market in Lagos Island local government area of Lagos collapsed during a downpour on Thursday. The incident, which occurred around 9 a.m., caused shock in the community. According to Margaret Adeseye, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, the building was undergoing renovations when it collapsed, but construction workers on site escaped unharmed. Emergency responders and employees from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station were present at the site, and recovery efforts have been completed. The cause of the collapse is unknown. The Lagos State Building Control Agency attributed the incident to the building’s tenants failing to comply with a previously issued vacation notice. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu clarified that the demolitions in Lagos have no ethnic bias, emphasizing that only structures violating building and development laws are being demolished.
