Celebrities Criticize 2Baba Over Separation from Wife, Annie

By Abigail Philip David

Nigerian music icon Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has come under fire from celebrities and social media users following his confirmation of separation from his wife, Annie Idibia.

In a video posted on his Instagram story, 2Baba announced the split, revealing they were in the process of filing for divorce. This came after he initially claimed his account had been hacked in a now-deleted post.

“Hello to my beautiful people of all federations. This thing I have to say is short but also long. Annie Macaulay and I have been separated for a while now and are currently filing for divorce. I will grant a press release soon to tell my story. Not because it’s anyone’s right to know about my personal life, but because I love my people and want them to know my innocence or offence. Stay blessed, my people. I love you all,” he said.

Shortly after, 2Baba posted another message claiming his account had been hacked, writing, “My Instagram account has been hacked, efforts are being carried out to take back control. #onelove!”

However, in a later post, the singer retracted his hacking claim, stating in a video: “Yo, bless some more people. Nobody hacked my accounts. Na me yarn weytin I yarn. I come in peace.”

The announcement triggered backlash, with many celebrities criticizing the decision and its public handling.

Toke Makinwa: The TV personality condemned 2Baba’s decision to bring the issue online, calling it “wrong on all levels.” In a post, she said, “You should be ashamed for bringing this here. If you think Annie is alone, let me tell you, you’ll have to fight us all.” She urged women to stand against such actions, warning that silence could allow similar situations to affect others.

Mary Remmy Njoku: The Nollywood actress expressed disappointment in 2Baba’s public announcement, stating, “Annie has a family o! Your sisters-in-law are many, and we’ve stayed quiet out of respect for her tough choices. Since you’ve decided to humiliate her at her lowest, no wahala. Just make sure she’s healthy and okay because, when the time comes, we’ll have questions for you.”

Uche Elendu: The actress criticized 2Baba for his lack of empathy, loyalty, and respect. “I am disappointed at this betrayal and insensitive announcement. A woman who stood by you deserves better. Love does not count errors, especially in times like this. The public does not need this information.”

Nina Ivy: The Big Brother Naija star shared her perspective on relationships, saying, “I can never be with a man who seeks public validation or uses my lowest moments against me. Ladies, you deserve peace and respect in a relationship. Protect your mental health and set boundaries.”

The controversy has sparked widespread discussions online, with fans and celebrities divided over 2Baba’s actions. Attempts to reach his management team for comments were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
