A chieftain of the (APC) and former Chairman of Ekeremor Local Government Area, , has defected to the (NDC) alongside more than 10,200 supporters.
The formal reception of Saboh and his supporters took place at the NDC state secretariat in , where party leaders and members gathered in large numbers despite heavy rainfall to welcome the defectors.
National Chairman of the NDC, , described the development as a sign of growing confidence in the party. He vowed that the NDC would resist any attempt to turn Nigeria into a one-party state and pledged to champion a political movement that restores power to the people.
“In politics, we should not join those who caused us pain in the past. It should not be a do-or-die affair,” Cleopas said, adding that the party had consistently stood with the people against perceived federal oppression and would replicate such successes nationwide.
He also commended the NDC National Leader, , for his leadership and commitment to equity and justice.
Bayelsa State NDC Chairman, , described the defection as a significant milestone that would strengthen the party’s structure and influence across the state.
Speaking at the event, Saboh said his defection marked a new phase in Bayelsa’s political landscape.
“I am defecting today with over 10,200 supporters, and more will join us soon. I am here to strengthen the party so we can win elections at all levels. We have served other parties diligently; it is now time to serve here and bring fresh air to the grassroots,” he said.
He expressed confidence in the party’s chances in future elections, noting that the NDC is well-positioned to deliver victory.
Also speaking, the Bayelsa State NDC Youth Leader, , described Saboh as an exceptional grassroots mobiliser and a valuable addition to the party. He emphasised the importance of youth participation in advancing the NDC’s agenda, particularly in rural communities.
