By Muhammad Ibrahim, Sokoto

The Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, has pledged full cooperation with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in the fight against drug abuse among secondary school students.

The assurance followed a courtesy visit by the NDLEA State Commander, Ashiru Abdullahi, and his team to the commissioner. According to the Ministry’s Information Officer, Ibrahim Iya, the visit was aimed at seeking collaboration on sensitization programmes, particularly for students of Unity Secondary School, Sani Dingyadi, and other schools across the state.

During the visit, the Commander presented a certificate of participation to Professor Ala and handed over posters to be distributed to schools for awareness campaigns.

In his response, the commissioner commended the NDLEA for its efforts and expressed appreciation for the visit. He noted that under the leadership of the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto (FCNA), the government remains committed to supporting NDLEA in safeguarding the future of young people.

Professor Ala also announced plans to establish a committee to strengthen and revive anti-drug committees in all secondary schools across the state. He stressed that with collective efforts, Sokoto society can be free from the menace of drug abuse.
