Confusion: Wuse Market goes up in flames, leaving one person dead, shops, Office burnt

There was confusion at midday on Tuesday as shops and the Abuja Markets Management Limited, AMML, Office at the Wuse Market was set ablaze following the death of one person who was allegedly killed by a Police man attached to the FCTA Mobile Court.

According to an eyewitness account, the suspect while attempting to escape after being arraigned before the court was shot dead by the Police Officer.

The witness further disclosed that the death of the suspect immediately angered some hoodlums who started burning shops, offices, and vehicles within Wuse Market.

The Spokesperson of Abuja Markets Management Limited, AMML, Innocent Amaechina who spoke said he couldn’t confirm the actual cause of the incident, but he heard that a suspect was shot dead, a situation which triggered violent reaction by hoodlums around the scene.

Amaechina however, confirmed that the AMML’s office in the market and some shops were burnt down by the angry hoodlums, thereby dispersing while some staff members

He also disclosed that he has not been able to access the market, which had been condoned off by the Police to allow firefighters to put the situation under control.
