88.7 FM Radio station in Langtang North local government area of Plateau State has been commissioned as full time transmission and programming have commenced.

The outgoing Chairman of the Council, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven performed the commissioning ceremony before Governor Simon Lalong controversially announced dissolution of all the elected councils in the state with effect from October 8, 2021.
He said during the commissioning event that the Radio is potentially the voice of the Taroh people of Langtang.

Speaking further during the commissioning, Laven said the Taroh Nation is known for setting the pace in development for a very long time: “I do not think it is out of place to say that we are the first LGA in Nigeria to own a radio station.”

According to him, this development is a great achievement despite the challenges his two years administration had to contend with. “Today”, he said, “we are celebrating, the Langstar 88.7 FM Radio station which has come to stay against all odds. This FM station is the first indegenous Radio station owned by a local government area in Nigeria.”

He noted that what inspired him to set up the FM station is the fact that communication is very important in any society and a veritable tool to reach out to the people so that they can be informed about development and the happenings around them.

“I realised that my people are not having access to information, and without the necessary information, I do not think any society will grow. First and foremost, let the people be informed, let them get connected to the world to understand the importance of ICT which is key tool for national development”, he stated.

Laven further said that his administration has encountered so many challenges, noting that in 2018, the PDP won elections in 17 out of the 18 wards yet they were not sworn in.

According to him, the law is very clear, anybody that has been declared winner in an election should be sworn in to serve his term of office as the constitution stipulates.

The chairman also noted that his tenure has one year to go, but the powers that be insisted that he must leave before the expiration of his tenure.

He said as law abiding citizen, he isinsisting that let the rule of law takes its full course as they cannot fold their hands and watch government truncate the mandate of the people.

“I can assure all of you here that the last is not heard about this injustice yet. This is just the beginning. I am happythat we are bowing out with our heads high because we came and reconciled the people and Langtang North local government council was the first to submit fire arms to the Government.

“We were the first LGA to submit arms to the State Government, because arms is not good to be in the hands of civilians. It goes to show how peaceful the Taroh man is. We are assuring every body that we will continue to be law abiding and to remain peaceful. We are not going to allow anything that will disrupt our hard earned peace”, he said.
