Court remands man in prison over assault, baby stealing in Bayelsa

A Magistrate Court sitting in Ovom has ordered that a 30-year-old man, Kingsley Solomon, be remanded in Nigeria Correctional Centre, Okaka for allegedly stealing a two-month old baby at Azikoro, Yenagoa local government area of Bayelsa State.

The order to remand him was given by Chief Magistrate Court 15 Yenagoa, presided over by Sarah B.I. Avoh, Chief Magistrate 11, on Monday.

The charge was read out to the defendant in English, but his plea was not taken.

Solomon was arraigned by the Bayelsa State Police Command before Magistrate Sarah B. I. Avoh
on two counts bothering on assault and child stealing.

The prosecution alleged that Solomon on the 23 day of June, 2023, at IYC Azikoro Town, did gave one Joy Lucky fast blow on the left eye side with the intend to steal her child and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 282 of the criminal Code Law, Cap C14, laws of Bayelsa State 2006.

The prosecution alleged that Solomon on the 24h any of June 2023 at IYC, Azikoro Town in the Yenagoa, did steal one baby success Alfred aged two (2) months old, baby of Joy Lucky and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 298 (a) of criminal Code law a Cap C14, laws of Bayelsa State 2006.

The police first information report further revealed that the Solomon who claimed to have had an affair with Joy during her early pregnancy at a brothel, is not the rightful father of Success Alfred.

Solomon who pleaded not guilty in July 3, 2023 to the two count charge of Assault and Baby stealing, and will have to spend at least 15 days in Correctional facility before he will will appear at Magistrate court on July 18, 2023.

She said, Solomon could either be bailed by a permanent Secretary under salary structure of N500k or be remanded to the Correctional facility.

She adjourned the case till July 18, 2023.

Recall that the Bayelsa Police Command, through Eunice Nnachi Women Advocacy foundation, ENWAF arrested Kingsley Solomon following an assault of Joy Lucky and stealing of baby Success Alfred along Azikoro area.
