Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, reaffirmed on Thursday that a core goal of his administration is transforming Delta into a premier destination for investors.
Speaking at the presentation of the staff of office to the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Epiphany Azinge (SAN), at Ogwa-Uku Ahaba, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of ensuring safety and security in communities and urban centers to attract both domestic and foreign investors.
While congratulating the newly enthroned Asagba on his successful ascension to the throne of his forefathers, the governor acknowledged Asaba’s growing appeal.
“I note with pleasure that Asaba has become the city of choice for many people who find it a safe place to raise their families,” he said. “However, this growth has also attracted undesirable elements with sinister motives. Therefore, vigilance and alertness to security threats are crucial for the kingdom and the state capital.”
The governor urged traditional rulers across Delta State to work collaboratively to sustain peace and security, emphasizing that such efforts are critical to achieving his administration’s investment goals.
“One of our administration’s primary goals is to make Delta State the preferred destination for investors. Achieving this requires communities and urban centers to remain safe and secure,” he said.
Governor Oborevwori also encouraged the traditional institution to liaise regularly with the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council to proactively address potential security threats.
A Dynamic Monarch for a Thriving Kingdom
Describing Professor Azinge as a “dynamic personality, purpose-driven leader, and consensus builder,” the governor expressed confidence in the new monarch’s ability to lead Asaba into greater community development, peaceful coexistence, and stronger ties with the government.
“His urbane outlook and statesman-like disposition are essential for a traditional ruler in a domain home to people of diverse tribes and tongues,” he noted.
The governor further highlighted the critical role of traditional rulers in governance, describing them as custodians of customary laws and key intermediaries between the government and grassroots communities.
“Traditional rulers greatly assist in raising awareness about government policies, from immunization to environmental sanitation and empowerment schemes,” he said.
Call for Support and Unity
Governor Oborevwori called on all Asaba indigenes to fully support their new monarch, emphasizing that unity and mutual understanding were essential for the kingdom’s progress.
“For the Asagba to succeed, he needs your unwavering support. Resist any attempt to sow discord within the kingdom,” he urged. “The success of the Asagba is also your success.”
Earlier, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, welcomed guests and congratulated the Asagba on his enthronement. He encouraged the monarch to remain a father figure to all his subjects, fostering unity and progress within the kingdom.
