Dispensing New Notes: Kano Banks Complying With CBN Directive – Investigations

Banks in Kano state Complying with the directive given by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to dispense new naira notes into their ATM’s yesterday Monday 23-01-2023 in order to meet the demends of the Nigeria’s citizens with ease.

Our correspondent in the state visited many banks across the state including some branches located in some far local government areas to monitor how the said new notes are being dispensed in ATM’s so as to enable that every citizens got new notes before the expiration of the deadline given by the Apex bank.

At Zenith Bank, Guaranty Trust Bank, UBA, First Bank, FCMB, Access Bank, Union Bank and Fidelity, customers were happy for withdrawing new notes in Automated machines while people remained busy depositing old notes inside the banking hall to beat the deadline.

Furthermore,  some customers who are mostly from the rural areas were seen withdrawing new naira notes from  banks that are  located outside Kano metropolitan like First Bank at Bichi Town, Access Bank Dawanau, Unity Bank at Dambatta, Gwarzo and fr Zaria Road.

It could be recalled that Nigerians have made series of appeal to the central bank to extends the date for old naira deposits where the central bank governor Mr. Emifiele insisted that the deadline remained 31-01-2023 as earlier scheduled where he appologiesed the public for not entertaining their request.

Our correspondent who also entered Sabon Gari Market, Kantin Kwari, Singer Dawanau international food market, and some shops in some rural areas observed that there are some denials in the collection of  old 200,500 and 1000 while some provisions retailers commenced closing their shops in protest to receives old naira notes.

At Dungurawa Town one of the  provisions and foodstuffs shops owner  lamented  that ” I accept transfers because I have an account with UBA and I am certain that the new notes would be made available from what the CBN is planning. I hope that the new naira notes would be made available before the expiration of the deadline”. He concluded.
