‘Edo People Have Spoken’: Speaker Abbas Congratulates Okpebholo, Idahosa, APC

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in the Edo State governorship election.

In his remarks, Speaker Abbas emphasized that “Edo people have spoken” through their votes. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Senator Okpebholo the winner of the election on Sunday night.

The Speaker also congratulated the deputy governor-elect, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, who is a member of the House of Representatives. He noted that both the governor-elect and deputy governor-elect are currently serving members of the National Assembly, highlighting the increasing influence of parliamentarians in Nigerian politics and governance.

Speaker Abbas urged Okpebholo and Idahosa to collaborate for the common good of Edo residents and to serve as exemplary ambassadors of the National Assembly.

With this victory, he stated that Nigerians continue to trust the APC to bring about positive changes, particularly under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He extended congratulations to President Tinubu and the leadership of the APC at both national and state levels, as well as to the people of Edo for “voting for positive change.”

Additionally, Speaker Abbas urged Senator Okpebholo and Hon. Idahosa to be magnanimous in victory and to reach out to their opponents. He called for calm in the state, affirming that the election results reflect the will of the people.
