The Kano Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport have pledged closer collaboration to combat illicit financial flows and enhance airport security.
The commitment followed a courtesy visit by the new Chief of Aviation Security at the airport, Aliyu Yahuza Abdullahi, to the Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC in Kano, Assistant Commander Friday S. Ebelo.
According to a statement signed by EFCC Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, Abdullahi assured the commission of AVSEC’s support, particularly in intelligence sharing and operational coordination. He emphasised the importance of joint efforts in tackling criminal networks that may attempt to exploit the aviation sector for illegal financial activities.
Abdullahi also requested prior notification of EFCC operations at the airport to enable AVSEC deploy resources effectively and support enforcement activities.
In his remarks, Ebelo welcomed the renewed partnership and called for increased vigilance, especially regarding the movement of large sums of cash through the airport. He noted that enhanced inter-agency cooperation is essential to deter financial crimes and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
Both agencies agreed that sustained coordination would strengthen efforts to prevent the misuse of financial systems and ensure compliance with relevant laws.
