Ekemini Ime Joins AGF: 18-Year-Old Midfielder Signs Five-Year Deal

By  Milcah   Tanimu

Danish Superliga club Aarhus Gymnastikforening (AGF) has announced the signing of promising Nigerian midfielder Ekemini Ime on a five-year contract. The 18-year-old will initially join AGF’s U19 team as he embarks on his European career.

Though the transfer announcement was made on October 2, 2024, Ime has already made his debut for AGF’s youth squad. He came off the bench in the fifteenth minute during a 1-0 loss to FC Midtjylland last weekend and received a yellow card shortly after replacing the injured Oskar Haugstrup.

Ime is set to be one of the first young talents to join AGF’s new academy at Fredensvang, which is scheduled to open later this month. Stig Inge, AGF’s sports director, praised Ime’s solid physical profile, which aligns with the club’s playing style and his role as a defensive midfielder. He noted Ime’s tremendous potential for development within the club’s system, supported by dedicated coaching staff.

Inge highlighted Ime as a tenacious and hardworking player, emphasizing the importance of further physical and tactical development in the coming years. Ime aims to follow in the footsteps of Edafe Egbedi, a former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles midfielder who successfully rose through the ranks to make his senior debut for AGF.

As AGF prepares for their upcoming match against Silkeborg, they currently sit seventh in the U19 Ligaen.
