  • Alleges plan by governor to create confusion, chaos

Some Concerned Stakeholders in Ezeagu Local Government Enugu State, has alleged that Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is on the verge of creating chaos with his decision of not following due diligence to ensure the tenets of democracy is achieved in the forthcoming local government scheduled to hold in February, 2022.

According to the concerned stakeholders, the governor who isn’t so happy that the candidacy was zoned to Ezeagu South, refused to allow zoning to the appropriate block in the south, seeking that random selection be made in the south without appropriate consideration of those who are yet to vye or occupy political position; an action they described as one which will disenfranchise the whole LG electoral process in the state and further create major crisis.

In a statement made available to newsmen on Tuesday, the CS said “We are very unhappy and concerned about the recent development ahead of the scheduled 2022 Local Government Polls, especially the nonchalant attitude of the governor, His Excellency Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi in zoning issues.

“In Ezeagu we have three blocks consisting of; Ezeagu Central, North and South, the first and second, since inception of the recent democracy in 1999, have ruled for like 12 and 8 years respectively, it is Therefore time for Ezeagu South to take over the mantle of leadership; a decision which was unanimously resolved after the Ezeagu general meeting held on the 5th of January, 2022; we are however confused as to why the governor is indirectly rejecting the zoning and trying to create pre-electoral crisis and territorial control.

“On a better note for in-depth clarification, Ezeagu South comprises of three blocks; Umana, Obinofia and Umumba. Ummana has in fair treatment sons who have occupied/ or occupying sensitive elected political positions, same goes to Obinofia. From the above assertion, it is only fair that it goes to Umumba in order for democracy balance and fairness.

“It is important to also state that  last two years  when it was zoned to Central, the Governor said specifically that it should go to mgbagbuowa because they never had a chairman; now we wonder why the Governor refused to allow zoning in the Ezeagu South to be futher zoned to Umumba, he is now campaigning zoning of gubernatorial slot of Enugu state. If the Governor is depriving Umumba from producing chairman what is his interest?  last time when it was given to the central on a platter of gold, he specifically asked the deputy governor who is from the central to nominate a candidate of her own choice from mgbagbuowa that has never occupied the position; Again, The question is why is Ugwanyi allowing him self to be used by his Chief of Staff Rt Hon Dr. festus Uzor who has interest of contesting for Election? We keep on wondering if the Governor is under a spell, because his Chief of Staff in collaboration with the Deputy Governor with their political plans for national assembly,  are conniving to build a structure by setting up their own man for the position of a chairman so as to ease their entry into the national assembly in due time. For the interest of the public both the Deputy and COS, are not from the South; I repeat they have no business with Ezeagu South, but because of the indecision of the Governor, they are in their element boasting to everyone who cares to listen, that Ezeagu South has nobody in the government to speak up for them, hence revealing their own choice candidates in the persons of Mr. Evaristus Anibueze and Barr Destiny Nnagbo. We are earnestly watching and we also know with this brief, Nigerians are also watching!

“Since we know the governor as a leader, who has great penchant for peace, we therefore use this medium to beg him not to rob Peter to pay Paul but rather, he should inculcate the spirit of fairness and transparency to entrench the tenets of democracy and not to constitute as a tool that will create chaos and destabilization of democratic practices in the state.” It added.
