EPL: Ronaldo’s Potential Manchester United Return Possible Under Amorim, Says Sheringham

By Abigail Philip David

Cristiano Ronaldo, who left Manchester United amid controversy, could still have a chance to return to Old Trafford, according to former United striker Teddy Sheringham.

In an interview reported by *Mirror UK*, Sheringham suggested that Ronaldo might be warmly welcomed back if he wished to return, particularly if Portuguese coach Ruben Amorim takes over at United.

Ronaldo’s celebrated 2021 return to Manchester United was initially seen as a “dream comeback,” but it ended on a sour note following a high-profile interview with Piers Morgan, which led him to join Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.

Now a major star in Saudi Arabia and the league’s leading scorer, Ronaldo has embraced a new phase of his career. Despite past tensions with United, Sheringham believes Amorim—who once played alongside Ronaldo for Portugal—could pave the way for a possible return.

“Cristiano Ronaldo would be very welcome back at Manchester United under Ruben Amorim. But he’s onto bigger and better things now. I think Ronaldo will follow a path similar to David Beckham, pursuing high-profile ventures worldwide rather than coaching,” Sheringham told *FlashScore*.

While Sheringham acknowledges the possibility of Ronaldo returning, he also thinks that, at 39, Ronaldo may choose to finish his career elsewhere. He doesn’t foresee Ronaldo pursuing a coaching role at United either.

“I’m sure he’d be very welcome back at the club in any capacity, but I doubt he’ll take up coaching,” Sheringham added.

Ronaldo has also hinted at his lack of interest in coaching, previously revealing on his YouTube channel, UR, that he doesn’t feel passionate about guiding the current generation of players.

“For me, it would be hard to be a coach one day. I don’t have a passion for this generation; they don’t value experience and think they can learn everything through phones—TikTok, Instagram,” Ronaldo said.

Instead, Ronaldo aims to focus on business ventures after his playing career. “I have other things to look forward to—a new chapter in business. It’s an area I’m eager to explore and grow in,” he said.
