“FG Approves N25,000 Allowance for Doctors in Federal Public Service”

The Federal Government has made a significant decision to approve the payment of a quarterly accoutrement allowance of N25,000 to medical and dental doctors working in hospitals, medical centers, and clinics within the Federal Public Service.

This approval was conveyed through a circular dated July 26, 2023, titled “Accoutrement Allowance for Medical and Dental Doctors in Hospitals, Medical Centers, and Clinics in Federal MDAs.” The circular, signed by Ekpo Nta, Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, stipulates that the allowance will be paid from the overhead budget, and its implementation is set to begin on June 1, 2023.

The decision to grant this allowance comes after the review of the health sector salary structures, which led to the approval of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) for health professionals in the Federal Public Service, effective from June 1, 2023. The attached Annex I provides the details of the new salary table.

The approval of this allowance may be seen as a response to the ongoing indefinite strike by members of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), as it aims to address the concerns and welfare of doctors working within the Federal Public Service.

For any inquiries related to this circular, individuals are advised to direct their questions to the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission. This move by the Federal Government marks an effort to enhance the working conditions and remuneration of medical and dental doctors in the country.
