The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing ecological challenges in Oyo State and other parts of the country, with emphasis on mitigating the effects of climate change, environmental degradation, flooding, erosion, desertification, and related environmental hazards.
The assurance was given by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, CON, during a courtesy visit by the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, and members of his delegation to the SGF’s office in Abuja.
This was disclosed in a press statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, which noted that Senator Akume congratulated the monarch on his ascension to the throne of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
According to the statement, the SGF assured the traditional ruler of the Federal Government’s readiness to address some of the perennial ecological challenges affecting parts of Oyo State, stressing that tackling ecological problems nationwide remains a key priority of the Tinubu-led administration.
Earlier, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja said the purpose of the visit was to appeal to the Federal Government, through the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, to assist in finding lasting solutions to persistent ecological problems confronting some parts of the state.
The Olubadan specifically drew attention to the impact of flooding in affected communities, noting that it had caused untold hardship for residents and disrupted livelihoods.
Members of the monarch’s entourage included Senator AbdulFatai Buhari, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, Alhaji Chief Ademola Alli, Prince Ade Adekanbi, Honourable Nureni Adisa, among other dignitaries.
