FG Stops Rivers FAAC Allocation Over Court Order

By  Milcah   Tanimu

The Federal Government has confirmed the suspension of October’s Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to Rivers State, citing compliance with a court order.

The development follows ongoing tensions between Governor Simi Fubara and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesome Wike. According to Bawa Mokwa, Spokesperson for the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), the decision to halt the allocation aligns with the directive of the Federal High Court.

Mokwa stated, “The October 2024 FAAC has not been distributed yet. However, the Federal Government will obey the court order on the Rivers State allocation matter. We will follow due diligence unless a contrary order is issued.”

The court order stems from an originating summons filed by a factional Rivers State Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule. The faction accused the state executive, under Governor Simi Fubara, of failing to comply with a Federal High Court ruling that mandated the re-presentation of the 2024 appropriation bill to the Amaewhule-led assembly.

As the legal and political tussle unfolds, the government has assured that due process will guide the disbursement process while awaiting further court directives.
