Firearm Charge Against Emefiele Dismissed by Court

By Daniel Edu

In a recent development, a Federal High Court in Lagos has officially dismissed the firearm charges brought against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Justice Nicholas Oweibo ruled to strike out the charge due to the lack of diligent prosecution. This decision followed an application for withdrawal made by Mohammed Abubakar, the Director of Public Prosecution at the Ministry of Justice.

During the previous court session, the DPP presented an oral request to withdraw the charges against Emefiele. The decision to withdraw the charges was based on emerging facts and circumstances that necessitated further investigation. The DPP urged the court to approve the withdrawal application, which subsequently led to the charges being dismissed.
