Former FCT Minister, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, Passes Away at 82

The Governor of Plateau State, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has announced the passing of the former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. General Jeremiah Timbut Useni.

The elder statesman died on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the age of 82, following a prolonged illness.

In a statement issued in Jos by Bere Gyang, Director of Press and Public Affairs, Governor Mutfwang described the death of General Useni as a significant loss, not only to his immediate family but also to the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.

The Governor praised General Useni’s exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to public service, which he said left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s security and political landscape. He also acknowledged the late General’s dedication to promoting peace and security, particularly in Northern Nigeria and Plateau State, noting that his efforts will always be remembered.

Governor Mutfwang highlighted General Useni’s illustrious career, which included service as Minister of Transport, Quartermaster General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT.

The statement concluded by extending heartfelt condolences to General Useni’s family, the people of Plateau State, and the entire nation as they mourn the loss of an elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria’s development remain unparalleled.
