Goalkeeper Francis Uzoho has issued an apology to fans following his outburst on Snapchat, where he took a swipe at critics who had been harshly criticizing his recent poor performances with the Super Eagles.
During the international break, Uzoho’s performances came under scrutiny after he made mistakes, including fumbling a free kick that led to Saudi Arabia’s opening goal in a 2-2 friendly game and allowing two goals against Mozambique in another friendly match in Portugal.
In response to the criticism, Uzoho posted a picture of himself on his Snapchat story with the caption ‘do it if it’s easy,’ seemingly in an attempt to silence his critics. This post angered many fans, who demanded his exclusion from the national team.
After receiving a wave of backlash, Uzoho has now publicly apologized for his outburst. He acknowledged that his behavior on Snapchat was not in line with how he should conduct himself and expressed regret for his actions. He also emphasized that he understands and welcomes criticism as part of his job and is committed to improving as a professional footballer.
The question of whether Uzoho will be selected for the Super Eagles in the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers remains uncertain, as fans and critics await the decision of the coach, Jose Peseiro. Nigeria is set to face Lesotho on November 17 and Zimbabwe four days later in Harare.
