Speaking on the outcome of the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ali Inname said within the past six weeks of the outbreak, 56 people lost their lives to the deadly disease in the 11 LGAs worst affected.

He further said the disease was initially affecting 22 LGAs sitting Gwadabawa, Range/Shuni, Badinga and Illela as the worst affected adding that the major factors that caused the disease are the poor sanitary conditions and open defecation areas coupled with rainfall that carry the disease along.

“As part of the state government’s efforts, drugs worth millions of naira was procured and distributed to all the 23 LGAs in the state”, averred Inname.

Speaking on the upgrade of Shehu Shagari College of Education to University of Education, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Bashir Garbage disclosed that the law establishing the institution was approved by the Council during its sitting.

Also speaking on how best to improve technical education in the state, Commissioner for Science and Technology Dr. Kulu Haruna said N437.5m was disbursed in purchasing 5,000 mattresses and 2,500 double beds as approved by the Council adding that all the technical schools in the state would benefit.
