Gov Alia Inaugurates 5 Member Judicial Commission Of Inquiry Into Ukum LG Massacre

The Governor of Benue State, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has inaugurated members of the Judicial Commission Of Inquiry into the disturbances/attacks in Ukum Local Government Area which resulted in killing of several persons and destruction of public and private properties.

The Governor who performed the ceremony at the Government House Makurdi, said it was necessary to set up a commission of inquiry in response to the incessant security breaches in Ukum Local Government Area to inquire about the root causes of the incident.

He maintained that the decision was in fulfilment of his administration’s promise to protect lives and properties of Benue citizens, adding that this will enable government to take appropriate actions in the interest of the Benue people.

“It was important to inquire into the root cause(s) of the disturbances/attacks in Ukum Local Government Area and its environs with the view to taking the appropriate actions in the interest of the Benue people.”

According to the statement, the committee is to inquire into, investigate and ascertain the remote and immediate cause(s) of the incessant disturbances, attacks and security breaches in Ukum Local Government Area, and the communities affected.

The committee is to also investigate and determine the actual number of lives and properties lost, identify the persons, groups or associations involved among other terms of reference.
