“Government Seeks to Rebuild Trust and Patriotism in Nigeria”

By Daniel Edu

The Nigerian Federal Government has expressed deep concern over the diminishing trust of the Nigerian populace in their elected leaders. Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stressed the necessity of initiating a national discourse on reorientation to rekindle faith in the concepts of nationhood and patriotism.

Following a confidential meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa in Abuja, Minister Idris highlighted the erosion of trust in the nation’s leadership, even among those who elected them. President Tinubu has issued a directive for the minister to spearhead a program aimed at restoring the trust and belief of Nigerians in their country.

Idris pointed out that symbols of patriotism, like the national flag, have lost prominence and need to be reinstated. The government’s objective is to foster discipline, patriotism, and a renewed belief in the founding principles of the nation.

Additionally, the minister unveiled plans to revitalize information offices in the 774 local government areas throughout the country, ensuring they have the necessary personnel to execute the reorientation initiative. This endeavor aims to rekindle faith among Nigerians in their country.

While reaffirming the government’s commitment to press freedom, Idris stressed the importance of responsible journalism. He emphasized that the Tinubu administration does not intend to curb the media but anticipates that journalists will exercise their freedom with responsibility.
