Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has extended his congratulations to the Delta Queens for their remarkable triumph in the Nigeria Women’s Football League, known as the Super Six tournament.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, in Asaba on Monday, the governor commended the team for their outstanding performance. The Delta Queens secured a 2-1 victory over Bayelsa Queens in the Super 6 competition held on Sunday at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

As champions of the Super 6 tournament, the Delta Queens have earned the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the upcoming West African Football Union B Women’s CAF Champions League qualifiers.

Governor Oborevwori, who received the trophy from the victorious team on Sunday night, congratulated them on their well-deserved victory. He emphasized Delta’s reputation for sports and encouraged the team to adequately prepare for the continental tournament.

The governor attributed the team’s success to their hard work, dedication, and focus, acknowledging the contributions of the management, coaches, and players. He assured the Delta Queens of continued support from the State Government to achieve further triumphs for both the state and the nation.

Expressing his satisfaction with the quality of the tournament, Governor Oborevwori applauded the organizers for facilitating such an exceptional event. He took pride in the Delta Queens’ victory after an 11-year wait and conveyed his heartfelt congratulations to the team for once again making the state proud.

“As a state government, we will continue to do everything possible to support the team to win more laurels for the state and country as they represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League via a WAFU qualifying window in August,” the governor affirmed.
