Group Kicks against Gbemisola Saraki as ministerial nominee for Kwara

By Jennifer Yusuf

A socio Political group in kwara state has kicked against the choice of Senator Gbemisola Saraki as ministerial nominee for kwara Central Senatorial district.

The group, operating under the name, Kwara Progressive Caucus, made this know through a press release sign by Yusuf Mohammed, chairman and Buhari Aliyu as secretary and made available to journalists in Ilorin, the state capital.

The statement reads “on behalf of the injured and silent majority voices of the people in Kwara State, would like to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari, for the nomination of Alh. Lai Mohammed and Senator Gbemiola Saraki, to serve as Ministers in the forthcoming Executive Council of the Federal Government of Nigeria”

“While we feel highly honored that two of the indigenes of Kwara State are considered worthy and privileged to be so nominated from amongst the people from other States in our geo – political zone, we wish however like to state that we have received the nomination of Senator Gbemiola Saraki, with mixed feelings”

“This is because of the fact that Senator Gbemiola Saraki is a blood sister to the former President of the Senate of Federal Republic of Nigeria and also former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Saraki, whose political leadership and administration of Kwara State have left bad imprint on the socio-economic and political developments in the State”

“We are very apprehensive of the fact that as the saying goes, ‘blood is thicker than water’. Therefore, we are afraid that the appointment of Senator Gbemiola Saraki as a Minister, is likely to bring back the sad memories of the reterogressive political activities of the Saraki Dynasty, which had impacted negatively on the lives of majority of the people of Kwara State, during the past years of Bukola Saraki’s administrations and political leadership in the State”

“We are of the believe that we have been able to defeat and wean ourselves from the Saraki Dynasty’s negative political influences and strongholds that have left bitter and sour tastes in the mouths of majority of the people of Kwara State, during the divinely inspired victory of the people in the last General Elections in Kwara State”

“However, we are now very worried and unhappy that the appointment of Senator Gbemiola Saraki as a Minister, would most likely provide easy access and the platform, which shall be employed to bring back the sad Era of the misrule and financial rape that were imposed on us in Kwara State, during the past sixteen years of political control by the Saraki Dynasty of which Senator Gbemiola Saraki was also an active participant”

“Furthermore, we cannot also forget in a hurry the effects of the unrestrained mismanagement of the financial resources available to the people of Kwara State by Dr Bukola Saraki and members of his biological family, which has always included Senator Gbemiola Saraki”

“We are aware and very sure that up till this moment of the nomination of Senator Gbemisola Saraki as Minister, the fraternity that existed between her and the brother, during the years of the atrocities he committed against the people of Kwara State and also the Federal Republic of Nigeria while he was President of the Senate, is still blossoming and waxing stronger”

“It is therefore worrisome that while we are still celebrating our God’s inspired bail out from the shackles of slavery and under development, which were imposed on the people of Kwara during the years of members of Saraki Dynasty’s reign, we feel traumatized by the obvious move to provide another opportunity and platform for the members of the family to further relaunch and strengthen their oppressive tendencies over the people of Kwara State, through the nomination and onward approval of Senator Gbemiola as a Minister by the Senate”

“Our prayer and appeal therefore to President Muhammadu Buhari, is that as we are afraid of the likely consequences of the possible appointment of Senator Gbemiola as Minister, we would like to be rest assured that the political activities of Senator Gbemiola Saraki as Minister, shall not be tantamount to taking us back to the dark days and also turning back the wheel of the progress and prosperity for the people of Kwara State”

The group, therefore expressed that if they should have been allowed to have their way with President Muhammadu Buhari, they would rather have preferred another person from Kwara State, to replace Senator Gbemiola Saraki choice.
