Gunmen Abduct Cleric, Other Conveying Chief Imam’s Corpse, Abandon body In Kogi

From Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

Unknown gunmen on Sunday kidnapped an Islamic cleric, Alfa Fasasi Ola Mejabi and his younger brother in Kogi state.

The cleric and others were said to be conveying the corpse of the late Chief Imam of Ayegunle Gbede, Sheikh Musa Olorunkemi, from Lokoja on Sunday when they ran into the kidnappers.

They were taking the late Chief Imam’s corpse to Ayegunle Gbede in Ijumu local government of Kogi state for burial.

One of the occupants of the car who escaped abduction told our correspondent that the incident occurred just Oshokoshoko, along Lokoja-Obajana-Kabba road.

He explained that their car was moving ahead the vehicle carrying the corpse of late Sheikh Musa who died on Sunday morning after a brief illness.

It was gathered that the victims’ telephone lines have been switched off since their abductors, but added that the kidnappers made contact with the family on Monday morning demanding for 10 million Naira ransom for their release.

Kogi Police command is yet to confirm the incident as efforts to get the state police command’s response proved abortive.
