Gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked a commercial vehicle in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing the driver and abducting several passengers, according to local sources and eyewitness accounts.
The incident reportedly occurred in the late afternoon near Sabon-Kurutu junction along the route between Hayin-Dam and Katari. Witnesses said the attackers emerged from nearby bushes and opened fire on the vehicle.Residents identified the driver as Joshua Atara.
A local resident, Muazu Garba, said the assailants shot the driver before taking passengers into a nearby forest. Community sources reported that about eight passengers were abducted, although authorities have not officially confirmed the number.
A local security source acknowledged that an attack occurred but said details of casualties and abductions were still being verified.Efforts to obtain comments from the Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson, ASP Mansur Hassan, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The incident adds to ongoing security concerns in parts of southern Kaduna, where travellers on rural roads have previously reported attacks by armed groups.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the incident or provide updates on rescue efforts.
