Hassan Shado of APC Wins Okura Constituency By-Election in Kogi

By Noah Ocheni, Lokoja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Hassan Shado, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), winner of Saturday’s by-election for the Okura State Constituency in Kogi State.

Announcing the results at the Egume Collation Centre, the Returning Officer, Professor Emmanuel Enenche Onome, said the APC candidate polled 55,073 votes. The candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured 1,038 and 445 votes, respectively.

The election, however, recorded low voter turnout, while some opposition parties expressed concerns about its credibility.

The by-election followed the death of Enema Paul, former Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, who represented the constituency until December 2024.
