Hon. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa Transforming Lagos International Trade Fair to Global Standard

By Hon. Umaru Bako

The recent innovations and initiatives spearheaded by Executive Director Hon. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa to revitalize and transform the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex are truly commendable.

The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex, situated along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, was established under the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex Management Board Act 1993 Cap L2 (Trade Fair Act) of Nigeria in 1990. The goal was to create an environment that fosters fair and open competition, improve service provision, facilitate infrastructure development, and support private sector-led growth through both domestic and foreign investments.

These efforts aim to boost trade and investment, with a focus on increasing the production and export of non-oil and gas products. This strategy is expected to drive wealth creation, job opportunities, and poverty reduction while enhancing service delivery. The overarching objective is to stimulate Nigeria’s economic growth, promote self-reliance, and integrate the nation into the global market, leveraging globalization to its fullest.

The Lagos International Trade Fair Complex (LITFC) is strategically located with a concept design that supports accessibility. It is poised for future designation as a Free Zone, which would further enhance its commercial potential. With significant opportunities in the service sector, new developments, and promising markets, the LITFC has the potential to become a major commercial hub for Nigeria and West Africa.

Moreover, the anticipated completion of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit network, especially the Blue Line Rail, is expected to significantly enhance the accessibility and appeal of the LITFC, making it a central business and tourism destination in Nigeria.

We applaud the dedication and vision of Executive Director Hon. Veronica Safiya Ndanusa in transforming the Lagos International Trade Fair Complex to meet international standards.
