“I Didn’t Know She Was Going to Pass On”: Funke Akindele Emotional as She Dedicates New Movie to Late Mother

Nollywood actress and acclaimed filmmaker, Funke Akindele, dedicated her latest movie, “A Tr!be Called Judah,” to her late mother, Dr. Adebanjo Akindele, during its premiere. The event, held on Sunday, December 10, saw numerous celebrities in attendance.

Expressing her emotions at the premiere, Funke revealed that she wrote the script of the movie without knowing her mother would pass away. She described the movie’s story as passionate and dedicated it to her late mother, encouraging the audience to enjoy and share the film. Funke emphasized the importance of unity among practitioners in the industry.

“This story is so passionate. It is dedicated to my mum, who passed away in February. I didn’t know my mum was going to pass on, but I wrote the story. She is gone now, thank God. I want you all to enjoy the movie and pass it on.”

The movie premiere gathered industry elites, including Ini Edo, Phyno, Shaffy Bello, Adunni Ade, Odunlade Adekola, Femi Adebayo, Faithia Williams, Ruth Kadiri, Juliana Olayode, Ali Baba, and Hilda Dokubo. The event featured a “Costume Party Extravaganza” theme, with celebrities like Mercy Eke, Juliana Olayode, Ali Baba, and others making a bold statement with their stylish looks.

Funke Akindele expressed gratitude for the successful premiere, thanking God, her family, friends, and colleagues for their presence and celebration. “A Tr!be Called Judah” is set to premiere on December 15, 2023, boasting a star-studded cast, including Funke Akindele, Jide Kene Achufusi, Timini Egbuson, Uzee Usman, Tobi Makinde, Olumide Oworu, Ebelle Okaro, Uzor Arukwe, Nse Ikpe Etim, Genoveva Umeh, Faithia Williams, Nosa Rex, Greg Ojefua, Ibrahim Yekini, Boma Akpore, Paschaline Alex, Etinosa Idemudia, Juliana Olayode, and Yvonne Jegede.
