Ifa Festival – Akerele calls for govt support for the dev of culture and tradition.

By Richard Ayinde, Osogbo.

Governments at all level have been admonished to always demonstrate their support to the development of culture and tradition.

The Obalokun of Osun State, Chief Teslim Raji, a.k.a. Akerele made this call yesterday at Ikoyi in Isokan South Local Council Development Area of Osun State while fielding questions from journalists as part of activities to herald his annual “Ifa Festival”.

Akerele who enjoined government to always promote culture and tradition as a way of generating Internally Generated Revenue, IGR said, government’s support towards the promotion of Yoruba culture and tradition by the traditionalists cannot be over emphasised saying government must see it as their role and responsibility to demonstrate their unflinching support to uplift the entire Yoruba race culturally and traditionally.

According to the Obalokun, “like am going to celebrate my annual ” Ifa Festival” tomorrow, it is not a way of worshipping idol, but it is a way of thanking the “Olodumare” God for all what He has been doing in the last one year.

“Similarly, we will use the opportunity of the festival to pray for Osun State and entire Nigeria as a whole among other.

” If government can make it as a duty to collaborate with us in developing culture and tradition, definitely they will not lack money or rely on any allocation coming from either the Federal Government or somewhere else”.

Akerele, who commended the Governor of Osun State, Mr Gboyega Oyetola for supporting culture and tradition in the state said people from all walks of life including traditional rulers would witness the annual “Ifa Festival”.
