Kelechi Iheanacho continued his domestic cup scoring streak by netting twice in Sevilla’s 3-0 victory over Las Rozas CF in the Copa del Rey’s first round at Estadio Navalcarbón. Given his chance to impress, Iheanacho made the most of it, scoring a brace to help secure Sevilla’s advancement.
The 28-year-old striker opened his Copa del Rey account in style, continuing his record of scoring in debut cup games. Previously, Iheanacho scored on his debut appearances in England’s FA Cup and League Cup with Manchester City and made a memorable debut with Leicester City in the Community Shield in August 2021.
Sevilla’s first goal came from a Luis Méndez own goal before Iheanacho doubled the lead on the hour mark, capitalizing on a setup by Juan Sánchez. He later added a second goal in the 79th minute, converting a blocked shot from Gerard Fernández.
After the match, Iheanacho shared his excitement, saying, “I’m very happy to have scored my first goals for this club. It’s great for my confidence and for the team’s, as we aim for a top-six finish.”
Currently, Iheanacho is behind Isaac Romero in Sevilla’s lineup hierarchy, but he hopes this performance boosts his chances. Sevilla’s next challenge is against Real Sociedad on Sunday at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán, where Iheanacho aims for another opportunity to impress.
