Illegal Mining Activity Linked to Ibadan Explosion, Says Governor Makinde

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, disclosed on Wednesday that the explosion in the Bodija Area of Ibadan was a result of explosive devices stored by illegal miners. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, claimed two lives and left 77 people injured. Governor Makinde, who visited the scene, emphasized that further investigations were ongoing, and anyone found responsible would face legal consequences.

He noted that preliminary findings from security agencies indicated that illegal miners in a Bodija house had stored explosive devices, leading to the blast. The governor assured that the government would cover medical bills for the victims and provide support for those whose houses were affected. Rescue operations were promptly initiated, with medical personnel attending to the injured in public and private hospitals within Ibadan. Residents were urged to remain calm and report emergencies to the designated helpline.
