IMP distances self from Medical Lab Science admissions

By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, IMP, in Akwa Ibom has distanced itself from the  purported admission letters said to have been issued to prospective students of Medical Lab Science by the institution.
A press statement  by the Acting Rector, Engr. Samuel Effiong Etim in Uyo on Monday stressed that the Polytechnic neither offer a degree programme nor have a department of Medical Laboratory Science.
Etim therefore, warned members of the public to be wary of such scam or to fall prey of receiving fake admission letters to study non-existing course in a non-existing department.
The Rector said the statement came following a publication by the Association of University Academic Medical Laboratory Scientists in Nigerian Tribune  Online Newspaper dated December 13, 2024 on the subject, “Illegal Mounting of Medical Lab Science (B.MLS) Degree Programme ” alleging that IMP issued admission letters to some candidates to study the said course.
While insisting that such letter did not emanate from the institution, the Rector observed that the letter was of no consequence as it cannot guarantee admission into any accredited institutions in Nigeria considering JAMB policy.
The statement read in parts, “our attention has been drawn to a publication by the Association of University Academic Medical Laboratory Scientists 🥼 in Nigerian Tribune online Newspaper dated December, 13th 2024 on the subject ‘Illegal Mounting of Bachelor of Medical Lab Science (B.MLS) Degree Programme.’
” The authority of IMP, therefore, wishes to disclaim the purported letter as it did not emanate from the institution. It is on record that IMP does not offer Bachelor Degree Medical Laboratory Science and as such has not issued any admission letter or admitted any student into a non-existing department.
“The institution upholds that it is only The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) that is saddled with the responsibility of issuing admission letter to deserving candidates into Universities accredited to offer B.MLS.
“Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic sees this allegation as the handiwork of some mischievous individuals whose aim is to discredit or dent the good image of the Polytechnic.
“We consider the letter as “Fake,” and wish to disassociate ourselves totally from the allegations and urge members of the public to disregard the notice as the institution is not party to the issue raised.”
