JUST IN: APC Releases Timetable for Rivers Congresses, Sets Chairmanship Form at N3m

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released the official timetable for the 2024 Rivers State Elective Congresses, which will begin on November 2, 2024. This was disclosed in a statement on Friday by the APC National Organising Secretary, Malam Suleiman Argungu.

Following the dissolution of the Beke-led executives, the party had previously appointed a caretaker committee, led by Chief Tony Okocha, to oversee the process of electing new leadership for the Rivers State chapter. Despite a court ruling reinstating the dissolved executives, the APC’s National Working Committee reaffirmed its support for the caretaker committee, asserting that party affairs are beyond the court’s jurisdiction.

In Friday’s statement, the APC outlined the cost for aspirants, with chairmanship hopefuls required to pay N3 million for the Nomination and Expression of Interest forms, while vice chairmanship aspirants will pay N2.5 million. The fee for local government chairmanship forms is set at N100,000.

The statement also provided concessions for certain groups: “Female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities will receive a 50 percent discount on the nomination form. Similarly, youths between the ages of 25 and 40 will also enjoy a 50 percent discount on the nomination form.”

Additionally, Argungu clarified that only financial members who have paid their membership dues—N200 per month for at least three months before the delegate congress—will be eligible to vote at the Ward Congress.

The Nomination and Expression of Interest forms will be available for purchase at the APC national headquarters in Abuja. As per the revised timetable, the composition of the screening and appeal committees is scheduled for October 18, and the deadline for submitting completed forms is October 21. The state executive council election will take place on November 9.
