JUST IN: Appeal Court Upholds Edo PDP Governorship Primary

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has overturned the judgment of a Federal High Court that had previously ordered the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to include 381 ad-hoc delegates in the February 22 primary election, which resulted in Asue Ighodalo becoming the party’s candidate for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

The decision was made by a three-judge panel, which ruled against the July 4, 2024, judgment of Justice Inyang Ekwo. The appellate court found that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case brought by the aggrieved delegates, as they did not have the legal standing to challenge the PDP’s primary election outcome.
