The Kaduna State Police Command has handed over the notorious Abuja kidnapper, Phillip Chinaza, to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. Chinaza was apprehended in Kaduna on Thursday alongside his gang members (currently at large) while transporting a victim, Segun Akinyemi, from Abuja to Kano State.
Kaduna Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, reported the incident, highlighting the successful rescue of Akinyemi during a gun duel with the kidnappers. The suspect, Chinaza Philip, was arrested, and the police recovered arms, a vehicle, and a mobile phone.
Confirming the handover, FCT Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that Chinaza was in police custody and assured that more details would be communicated soon.
This development follows a recent incident where police officers rescued Akinyemi from abduction, prompting an exchange of gunfire. The three other suspects who escaped are being pursued, and recovered items include the victim’s vehicle, pistols, and ammunitions.
Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State Police Command, A D Ali, praised the operatives for their bravery and urged continuous efforts in pursuing criminal elements. He also encouraged the public to use security agencies’ hotlines for prompt responses to distress calls.
