The Kaduna State Government has begun allocating new plots of land to residents of Malali Low-Cost whose homes were demolished under the previous administration, as part of efforts to address longstanding compensation concerns.The Director-General of the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Bashir Garba Ibrahim, presented land titles to beneficiaries, stating that the move fulfils Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to provide redress.
Ibrahim said the allocations followed a stakeholders’ meeting held on January 21, where discussions focused on the circumstances surrounding the earlier demolition. He urged beneficiaries to develop the plots promptly and avoid reselling them. “We want beneficiaries to become homeowners and contribute to the state’s development,” he said. Speaking on behalf of affected residents, former Malali Low-Cost chairman Mohammed Auwal expressed appreciation to the state government, noting that the intervention followed years of engagement after the demolition.
According to officials, the affected community had faced eviction notices issued in 2020. While initial plans were delayed after protests, demolition of more than 80 structures was eventually carried out in 2021. Residents have since sought compensation or alternative housing, leading to the current allocation of plots.
