Gives govt 8 days ultimatum

Medical Doctors, Zaria chapter of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), in Kaduna state have threatened that they cannot guaranteed industrial harmony if their abducted colleague is not released or rescued by 26th of August,
Recalled that their colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola, a medical Doctor at the National Eye Centre Kaduna, was abducted together with her husband and a nephew by bandits on December 27, 2023.
However, the husband who was ill when the hospital quarters was attacked by the bandits, was released when the bandits demands were met.
Dr. Ganiyat has continued to be in captivity for about 7 months which prompted the doctors to address a press conference and vowed to embark on an industrial action if their request was not met within the period.
President of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Zaria,
Dr. Suleiman Isah Adah and the Secretary, Dr. Jimoh Aminat, said “we can’t guarantee industrial harmony if by the 26th of August, she is not released or rescued.”
“We call upon the government, security agencies, and all relevant authorities to intensify efforts to secure their safe return,” they said.
They cautioned that unless Dr. Ganiyat is freed in 10 days,they would have no option than to go on strike.
