During the inaugural meeting, the Security Council discussed various security challenges confronting the state. These challenges included banditry activities, kidnapping incidents, communal disputes, phone snatching incidents, the potential threat of fuel shortages, gang fights known as “sara suka,” and the prolonged power shortage affecting Ahmadu University in Zaria.
The Security Council meeting was attended by top officials from several security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Air Force, Department of State Services, Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and the Kaduna State Vigilance Service.
This gathering reflects the commitment of the state government to address a wide range of security concerns affecting the region. By convening the Security Council and engaging various security agencies, the government aims to devise effective strategies, coordinate efforts, and implement measures to ensure the safety and security of the residents. Furthermore, the government expressed its plan to engage key stakeholders in the petroleum sector, including the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, and the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, to discuss the fuel subsidy removal and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
In addition to the fuel subsidy matters, the meeting also highlighted the need for the state government to mediate and facilitate a peaceful resolution of the ongoing power issue between Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria and the Kaduna Distribution Company (DCO). Resolving this issue is crucial to creating a peaceful and conducive learning environment for the university community.
